Still life in porcelain. Arrangements of light.
She grouped simple vessels together—and turned pottery into poetry.
Gwyn Hanssen Pigott studied with Bernard Leach, mastered wheel-thrown functional pottery. Then, in her 60s, she began arranging groups of pots together on rectangular boards. These 'still life' groupings—assemblies of bottles, bowls, beakers—transformed her work from craft into something closer to painting or poetry. The arrangements suggest Morandi's still life paintings, Chinese scholar's rocks, Japanese flower arrangement.
What happens when objects are arranged together?
