Svend Bayer
Britain
Big pots, long firings. Wood fire at scale.
He throws the largest pots in Britain—and fires them for days in a massive wood kiln.
Svend Bayer is known for large-scale thrown forms fired in wood kilns he built himself. His pots can stand four feet tall, generous forms with surfaces transformed by wood ash and flame. Bayer trained with Michael Cardew, absorbing the British studio pottery tradition, then developed his own path: bigger, bolder, more ambitious.
What would it mean to work at a scale that challenges you?
